Saved?

Saved from What?

Why does everyone keep asking me if I'm saved? Saved from what? Who is this Jesus and what do I need to be saved from?

There is a lot to be saved from - and even more to be saved to! To understand what we're being saved from, maybe it might good thing to look at what we're being saved to.

Knowing the God who created the world is a wonderful thing. Being saved is so much more than a rescue from hell (which it is!), it's a real relationship with the One that created the universe and everything in it. As in any relationship this is a living, growing relationship! You and God get to know each other on a daily basis. Just imagine, having a friend that you can always depend on, and always trust.

So far it sounds good, but we do have a problem, God is Holy (without sin), and will not allow any sin (un-Holiness) at all in His presence.

Before we go any farther, let's find a simple definition of sin. Sin is basically an act of un-love. If you really love someone will you sin against them?

Using the Ten Commandments as a simple guide - would you lie to the one you loved, would you steal from them, or even kill them? Would you want to do them any harm at all? Of course not! If you really love someone you won't want anything except good things for them. God is no different.

We could substitute clear water as Holiness (or without sin). If you had one ounce of clear water, how many drops of black paint would it take before the water was no longer clear? The answer is "one". It doesn't matter how much, or how little black paint you put in the water, after the first drop the water is no longer clear.

The same is true for "sin" and Holiness. After the very first sin we commmit, we are no longer Holy.

We need to understand that God looks at sin much differently than we do. (James 2:10) We tend to measure "sin" in degrees like the world we live in does. A little sin deserves a little punishment, a big gets a bigger punishment.

We are all sinners - that is to say we have all commited acts of un-love at one time or another. The way God looks at sin is in totality. 1 "sin" makes you a sinner, 2 "sins" still makes you a sinner, 10,000 "sins", and you're still a sinner.

Since God is Holy (without sin) - He will not let any sin at all into His presence. This leaves us with a very big problem, but we are not without hope. God is Love, and He loves us all very much.

We need to find a way to get rid of the sin we have in our lives. How can we go back and erase the sin in our lives, we can't. God did give us a way to remove the sin we have commited. He sent His only Son to be a sacrifice for us. (Heb 7:26-28)

All we have to do to be "SAVED FROM" hell, death, and the grave and "TO" eternal life, a relationship with God, and to know true love is to accept the sacrifice that Jesus made on the Cross. (Rom 10:9-13)

Once we have invited Jesus into our hearts and accepted His rightousness we are saved! You see we don't get saved on our own, we need the Blood of Jesus to wash our sin away.

If you want to have a relationship with God, but don't know how just pray this simple prayer:

Dear Jesus,
I know I've been a sinner and I know I've goofed up. Please forgive me and come into my life. I accept Your rightousness in place of my own un-rightousness. I accept your Blood as payment in full for all my sin. Thank you for saving me, and please send me Your Holy Spirit to teach me about You.

Amen!

That's it, if you prayed that simple little prayer and meant it, Jesus saved you right then and there. You can now begin to build a realationship with God! Now find yourself a Bible and begin to listen to God - He really does talk to us!!

If you did really invite Jesus into your life today, please drop us a line and let us know about it.

James 2:10
10 For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all. (KJV)

Heb 7:26-28
26 Such a high priest meets our need-- one who is holy, blameless, pure, set apart from sinners, exalted above the heavens.
27 Unlike the other high priests, he does not need to offer sacrifices day after day, first for his own sins, and then for the sins of the people. He sacrificed for their sins once for all when he offered himself.
28 For the law appoints as high priests men who are weak; but the oath, which came after the law, appointed the Son, who has been made perfect forever. (NIV)

Rom 10:9-13
9 That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
10 For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved.
11 As the Scripture says, "Anyone who trusts in him will never be put to shame."
12 For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile-- the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him,
13 for, "Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved." (NIV)
